Establishing a seamless distribution system, whatever the size of company, can be an arduous task. In fact, often, the smaller the company the more pressures there are and the less room there is for manoeuvre.
Size doesn’t matter with Boughey – a tailor-made logistics solution is developed to meet every client’s needs.
Victoria Foods began working with Boughey back in 2003. The logistics provider was already consolidating loads for Tesco and the manufacturer initially moved Tesco-only goods to Boughey. The rest of the business quickly followed as a direct result of poor service levels from the incumbent distributor.
“It was Christmas, our busiest time of the year,” says Brian Tickle at Victoria Foods, “but we had no option but to seek alternative warehousing/distribution.
“After having several quotes and seeing several potential suppliers Boughey was the best fit for us and we moved just before Christmas 2003. It could have been very bad timing, but the service provided was excellent and we hardly missed a case. It was a real credit to everyone at Boughey and Victoria Foods who fostered a swift and excellent working relationship which has continued to this day.”
Pancake Day is a key trading period for Victoria Foods. They produce most of the own-label batter mixes for the majority of the major retailers in the UK, which equates to approximately 4.8 million sachets of mix. Most of this is manufactured between December and February but unfortunately the majority of this stock only starts to be delivered in the last week of January. Therefore stock-holding is of paramount importance over the already busy Christmas period.
Victoria Foods has very little warehouse space and limited raw materials on site, therefore Boughey offers a tailored logistics package that meet the client’s demand. In addition to maximising the shared warehouse facility in Winsford, Boughey also provides a pick-up of raw materials from an outside warehouse every morning. This is delivered to Victoria Foods, the trailer dropped off and a full trailer taken away. The vehicle then returns for one or two further pick-ups/drop-offs each day.
Pallet count has substantially increased since Boughey first began working with Victoria Foods. Stock levels started at 800 pallets and are now at approximately 1500 pallets.
Keith Forster, Boughey MD, remarks: “We know that understanding our customers’ needs is extremely important to not just winning business but also to keeping it. The strong working relationship that we have with Victoria Foods helps ensure a streamlined service from door to door.
“The quality of our service, won us this business and our renowned reliability and attention to detail has ensured we maintain it.”
