With the on-going success of Palletline and the increased focus on the export side of the business, Boughey Distribution continues to grow and develop. In light of this, the company has appointed Neil Trotter as Transport Operations Director, with responsibility for all outbound transport operations for the business.
Neil joins the business from logistics experts, Gist Ltd, where he gained over 14 years’ experience, starting out as a Transport Planner as part of a student placement year. He then progressed with the company through a number of roles around the UK, working with various customers such as Marks & Spencer and Starbucks, and eventually becoming General Manager for its primary business looking after the North West.
Moving to Boughey is an exciting challenge for Neil and his immediate focus is on strengthening our business relationships with major retailers and Boughey’s customer base. He is also looking at opportunities to improve the company’s service offering from a delivery point of view and is leading the team to improve efficiencies within existing operations.
Looking ahead, Neil is relishing the prospect of his first peak period with Boughey, with the advent of Halloween. He explains, “From the end of September and throughout October we hit one of our major spikes in the annual calendar. Certain customers, such as Swizzels, have a high level of demand over this period and we need to ensure we have the appropriate resources in place to meet this and make sure all deliveries are met.”
He also identified another key challenge for him going forward: “Driver recruitment is an on-going challenge across the sector and I will be looking at ways we can generate interest in Boughey from new and experienced drivers. We already provide our drivers with industry leading vehicles and have a comprehensive driver training programme in place, but we are looking at what else we can introduce to attract top-calibre drivers and widen our driver demographic.”
