Boughey fulfilling your distribution needs

Posted on 21st August, 2018 Boughey fulfilling your distribution needs

Following the launch of our e-fulfilment service from our warehousing operation in Cheshire, we thought we’d celebrate it with a look at just what exactly e-fulfilment is and does.

E-fulfilment is a way of businesses distributing products via fulfilment centres. This centre is a physical location where third-party logistics (3PL) providers are able to fulfil orders for their customers. The e-fulfilment system is of ideal benefit to ambient and specialist food manufacturers, with comparatively low volumes of stock, and also for new product entrants, which are launching new products and seek to build their brands from the ground up. Using e-fulfilment will enable them to create evidence of a growing demand, to help them to become involved with more prominent retailers and networks. It is also ideal for customers looking for a single logistics provider.

A fulfilment centre’s primary aim is to deliver orders to customers in timely fashion. While there is a warehousing component to a 3PL’s fulfilment centre – whereby storing a merchant’s inventory in its designated locations – the main goal of a fulfilment centre is to have a fast inventory turnover.

As Boughey operates predominantly in the ambient food sector, this is ideal, as we neither store nor distribute anything hazardous, nor frozen nor perishable. Customers who use fulfilment centres will proactively send more inventory to make sure there is always enough on hand prior to shipment. The role of a warehouse is to store products, while the role of a fulfilment centre is to efficiently meet customer expectations. Unlike some warehouses that have periods of inactivity, a fulfilment centre has continuous movement and is a much more complex operation. E-fulfilment offers a variety of services, including receiving inventory, picking products, kitting items, packing boxes, labelling shipments, shipping orders and managing returns.

Boughey Distribution now offers e-fulfilment as a separate, specialised service. This is building on the foundations of our successful and efficient service set-up, of palletised warehousing, distribution and consolidation. We already have a reputation as a logistics provider of reliance and trust. By launching an e-fulfilment service, this enables us to provide all our customers with 100% care and attention, whatever their size and distribution needs.
