As we enter a new decade, the warehousing and distribution sector faces new challenges. With a great deal of discussion in the media and business around supply and demand, space is at a premium in the warehousing sector at the moment.
Having adequate stock and being able to distribute it efficiently and accurately is a fundamental part of every successful business. It’s a fine line between having the stock available, ready to be distributed, and overstocking, with shelves crammed with produce with a countdown to its expiry date. And wasted warehouse space, due to gaps or overstocks, is exactly that – a waste.
A safe pair of hands
Here at Boughey Distribution, we think we get the balance right with our system. We utilise the latest technology, such as our SAP WMS system, that allows us to monitor exactly our stock levels and its whereabouts. A warehouse operation’s performance is only as good as its staff. Our expert team leaders ensure that our warehouses run smoothly and the orders are carried out to schedule and accurately. Many are long-serving staff who know the Boughey locations inside-out, and are very familiar with the teams they work within. The company’s work ethic and belief that it provides a ‘safe pair of hands’, runs throughout the business from the senior staff to the warehouse operatives and drivers, who carry out order dispatch and deliver the stock.
Having the space to house the level of stock required throughout the year is crucial to a successful logistics provider. Because of this, we recently took the decision to take on a new warehouse, known locally as Crewe 240. This new 237,734 square feet warehouse at Crewe Commercial Park is undergoing a massive fit-out and will increase our storage capacity from 100,000 to 137,000 pallet spaces. With warehousing space in demand and customers keen for us to accommodate their stock, it was a natural move for us and one which we hope will pay dividends.
Our management of this increased space will enable us to stock an even wider range of products and take on more clients. It’s close enough to our existing site at Wardle to further strengthen our position as one of the leading ambient food logistics firms, not just in the North West of England, but across the UK.
We are proud that we have nurtured over the years many strong and ongoing relationships with our clients, many of whom have been with us for the long haul. Our clients like the reliability of our day-one order for day-two delivery mechanism for the biggest major multiples, which ensures the swift and accurate dispatch of stock, whatever the size of client and scope of order. We also attract clients due to our excellent relationships with many of the big supermarkets, making us the ideal point of contact for emerging firms that want to break into the larger stockists. We’re the bridge that can facilitate this transition for established companies and start-ups of all sizes.
It seems as long as we can find the space, the capacity will be filled, which is testament to our continued success as the logistics provider of choice in the ambient storage sector.
