A recent addition to Boughey’s roster of clients is Squirrel Sisters. Run by real-life sisters, the siblings, Gracie and Sophie Tyrrell, started blogging about health, wellness and lifestyle in 2014. Having quickly gained a large online following, the sisters saw the opportunity to turn their blog into a business. Using ideas and recipes first mentioned on their blog, the award-winning snack bars are now sold around the UK and the sisters are looking to expand their business online.
Stocked by major supermarkets
The snack bars’ recipes were concocted by Gracie for Sophie, who has a gluten-intolerance. The variety of snack bars were launched in November 2015 and have become immensely popular – they are now stocked by Waitrose, Holland and Barrett, Ocado, Selfridges, Whole Foods, Amazon and BP M&S forecourts, to name but a few. The aim of Squirrel Sisters’ products is making sure healthy can also be tasty and fun. The Squirrel Sisters’ range includes both snack bars and ‘raw bites’ which come in a share bag format. All their products are gluten-free, plant-based and 100% natural.
No added sugar
The snacks contain no added sugar throughout the whole product range and the company is committed to this in the future, even as it introduces further variety of flavours and new products. This is one of the only healthy snacking brands that doesn’t add any syrups or sugar alternatives, which is why it has been certified by Sugarwise. The products have achieved a host of accolades, including three Great Taste Awards, The Women’s Health BEST bar snack award 2018, and a Bronze Free from Award for Veggie ‘Best Snack’. One of the brand’s most exciting aspects is its packaging, which is very distinctive and fun, and encapsulates the Squirrel Sisters ethos to ‘TREAT YOUR HEALTH’.
As a small business, everything needs to run smoothly, especially from a distribution point of view. The packaging especially matters, and Squirrel Sisters’ had a number of issues with its initial warehouse and distribution company, which was costing the company time and money. These problems led Squirrel Sisters to look for another supplier and Boughey Distribution was recommended by an existing Boughey client. As this was a trusted source, Squirrel Sisters took the plunge and contacted Boughey.
Gracie Tyrrell, Head of Brand and New Product Development, commented: “Teaming up with Boughey has been a good move for us. They have extensive experience as to how the big retailers work, and we’ve been very pleased with the overall service, which has met or exceeded our expectations. In 2020 we have big plans to launch our next phase, which includes the introduction of new flavours, such as the Peanut Caramel, which has just launched in Waitrose last month, and a big push into online sales. It’s a very exciting time for us and Boughey’s experience and efficiency will be a big part of our expansion.”
